Puppy Mills and Irresponsible Breeders cause Weakened Genes in their dogs
Unfortunately, this youtube video will be expiring soon, but I thought it was worth posting because it so well spoke of the damage that irresponsible breeders can cause, and how to find a responsible breeders. Do check out the other videos of the Rescue Ink guys - they put a whole new face on animal rescue. Motorcycle angels!
The Rescue Ink guys investigated a case of a woman allegedly selling sick bulldog puppies. They spoke to a bulldog breeder with a good reputation to determine what makes up a responsible breeder. The differences were striking: the responsible breeder bred her dogs every year to two years, and would help take back a dog that did not work out. The irresponsible breeder was cold, overbred her dogs, and many of them died or developed serious health conditions such as seizures. Sometimes the new owners made the heartbreaking decision to euthanize a pet that they had been planning to spend many years with so that it did not have to suffer.
Nuff said? Again, please choose a dog with great care, know how it was bred if you are choosing a purebred dog and support your local shelter. By the way, you can do that by clicking the button below everyday - for free!

Puppy Mill Dogs are Causing Breed Deterioration
One of the saddest realities of puppy mills are that they are causing the careful breeding of dogs to deteriorate. For years people have bred puppies because they like a breed. These family run operations would put their dogs at stud or allowed the females to have a litter rarely, so the dogs could recover. The breeders would be careful to accent the better aspects of the breed, and thus they would be less likely to have infirmities typical to the breed. And they would be proud of this: for example they would guarentee the hips of their pets.
But puppy mill operators have caused breed deterioration. You are much more likely to get a weakened puppy if you purchase without knowing the breeders.
I actually believe that mixed breed dogs are more hearty. Like the eugenics of the Nazis, breeding along a narrow spectrum can cause more problems than it solves. But if you choose a particular breed JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT TO - please, please know the breeder so you are sure you are not buying from a puppy mill.
